THE SQUID GAME
The “Squid Game” is a well-known South Korean survival drama
television series that was released in September 2021 and has already become the
most-watched Netflix series around the world. It revolves around a contest where players
risk their lives to play a series of 6 traditional children's games to stand a chance of
winning a cash prize.
The Rotaract club of IIT will be initiating its own rendition of the event for the
first time in Sri Lanka to give the opportunity of experiencing the same adrenaline rush and
excitement in participating in a series of similar elimination-based games for the ultimate
prize!
FACTS ABOUT
The Squid Game
The first phase of this event was successfully concluded on the
25th of February. Participants competed in a multiplayer online “Squid Game” consisting of 5
levels where the winner walked away with a ticket to the final phase. The second phase
consisted of two pop-up stalls at One Galle Face and Colombo City Center during the months
of April and May. The winners of the second phase were awarded a cash prize.
The final phase is scheduled to take place on the 28th of May 2022. This event will be
opened to 456 players. They will face a series of childhood games with a twist that was
inspired by the 6 original games from the Netflix series. The event will conclude with an
award ceremony, where the winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs.50,000. All registered
players of the final phase will receive food and beverages and any required medical services
on the day of the event. All safety precautions will be taken adhering to the COVID-19
health guidelines issued by WHO.
